For internal work, a pilot or bushing aligns the existing hole concentric with the broach path \u2014 broaching follows the hole it is given, so hole quality sets the ceiling on form accuracy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pick up the broach.<\/strong> The ram&#8217;s holder engages the broach \u2014 from above on pull-down machines, from below on pull-up machines \u2014 and the fixture clamps the part against the cutting force to come.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cut in one stroke.<\/strong> The ram draws the broach through or across the part at a controlled speed while coolant flushes the cutting zone. The part sits on the table where gravity seats it, and the loading station sits low \u2014 exactly where bowl feeders, chutes, and pick-and-place units prefer to work. The fixture must clamp the part against the downward pull, and the stroke consumes building height (or pit depth) rather than floor length.
