The broaching procedure is connected to the broach’s structure and teeth form. Broaching techniques are often classified into two types: layered broaching and block broaching.
The former is classified as formal and gradual, while the latter is classified as round-cut and thorough round-cut. A formed broach’s profile is comparable to the ultimate shape of the surface to be machined; an incremental broach’s profile is distinct from the shape of the workpiece, and the shape of the workpiece is gradually produced by the sequential cutting of each tooth.

The wheel-cut broach is made up of many pairs of cutter teeth. Each set has numerous cutter teeth of the same diameter that are used to cut a portion of a metal layer. Each pair of cutter gears alternates between cutting off each layer of metal.

The wheel-cutting type is used for the harsh cutting teeth of the complete wheel-cut broach, and the form is used for the delicate cutting teeth. Wheel-cut broaching tools have a significantly bigger cutting thickness than layered broaching tools and are more productive, but they are more complex to produce.
